British Lung Foundation kicks off asbestos awareness campaign

The British Lung Foundation aims to support the one in five people in the UK that have been, or will be affected by lung disease in some form. And it has recently kicked off a campaign called Take 5 and Stay Alive to highlight the dangers of asbestos to tradespeople.

Such awareness campaigns are required, with an average of 18 people a week dying from exposure to asbestos. That breakds down to roughly 6 electricians, 4 plumbers, and 8 joiners every single week. That's pretty staggering if you think about it. Skilled professionals whose lives have been cut short by asbestos in their lungs.

The Take 5 and Stay Alive campaign tasks you with asking these 5 questions before carrying out your work on a site:
  1. Do you suspect there’s asbestos on site?
  2. Can you be sure it’s asbestos?
  3. What’s the level of risk and how do you handle it safely?
  4. Have you had the right type of training?
  5. Are you taking precautions to minimise the risks?
Here at C&D we run regular asbestos training courses. If you'd like to know more, email us at john.woodward@demolishdismantle.co.uk
