When 'Banter' Just Isn't Funny....

A recent survey by CITB and Construction News has highlighted the fact that the majority of construction industry staff hear sexist, racist, and homophobic language of a regular basis. As more than half of those surveyed described this as 'just banter,' CITB have recognised that the industry has serious challenges to overcome if Equal opportunity and Diversity issues are to be taken seriously within the workplace.

This type of language is insulting, patronising, and serves to exclude some members of our workforce, and potential employees. As employers, we all have a legal and moral duty to ensure that our employees are treated fairly and with respect and are protected against this type of discrimination.

C&D believe raising awareness of these issues, and helping staff to appreciate the value that difference brings to a work environment is one way to tackle this.

Our Equal Opportunity and Diversity Awareness courses do just that. The courses help employees to explore the individual nature of the workforce and they encourage participants to explore and examine their own stereotypical views. This course material encourages individuals to move towards creating inclusive working environments, thus challenging prejudices.

These one day courses can be individually tailored to suit your company requirements. For more information, contact jill@demolishdismantle.co.uk
