Asbestos removal company fined £150,000

Angus Group Ltd. has been found guilty of eight breaches of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006. The result was a fine of £109,000 and £42,100 in costs, bringing the grand total to £151,100.

The breaches occurred at the former Ermine Infants’ School on Thoresway Drive in Lincoln. Angus were subcontractors carrying out the asbestos removal on the site. Even though an asbestos site survey was carried out, a HSE investigation found the recommendations of the survey were ignored by Angus.

The end result was asbestos left on the walls and a hall covered in dust. Samples were taken and it was confirmed that Angus' actions had meant the entire building was now contaminated with asbestos. As they are an experienced licensed company, their actions have been viewed as "deplorable."
