Two New Year's Honours awards for the Health and Safety Executive

We are very happy to discover that two members of the Health and Safety Executive were named in the New Year's Honours List for 2016.

The first is Judith Hackitt CBE, the Chair of the Health and Safety Executive. She has been made a Dame as recognition for being a health and safety role model in engineering, especially for young women.

The second is Paul Hamey, of the HSE's Chemical Regulations Directorate, who has been awarded an MBE for his services to the regulation of pesticides. He is recognised as an expert in the field, and in particular with regards to the agriculture sector.

Speaking of her honour, Judith said:

"It has come as a big surprise, but I feel very privileged to receive the honour of being made a Dame.

I am grateful for the recognition for my work as an ambassador for health and safety and engineering, but I could not have done that without having such a brilliant, world-class organisation to talk about.

It has been an honour and a privilege for me to Chair HSE for the last eight years. I am immensely proud of this organisation and what it does.
