Number 8 Demolition Services appoint C&D Consultancy as preferred training providers to deliver NDTG and CIEH training courses as part of their ongoing training of all staff.
Managing Director Trevor Mills stated “It was evident to us that there were two key issues facing demolition contractors when we commissioned some research at the start of 2013:
1. Shortage of competent operatives
2. Lack of relevant training
The two are closely linked – once you have found competent operatives you need to ensure they have the latest and most up to date training.
Through feedback from our clients, it’s clear that workload will jump in 2014. Some of our clients are talking a two-fold increase in secured work, meaning demand for skilled operatives will intensify – this will be from an already fairly small applicant pool as we stand today.
We envisage this will cause two major issues:
1. Contractors who will just be starting to enjoy an upturn in work, will struggle to handover projects on time due to a lack of skilled/trained labour. This in turn could damage relationships moving forward
2. If the labour pool remains too small, rates will start to increase due to demand and could end up seriously eroding margins
Principal contractors and end-user clients are moving further towards demanding a fully trained workforce on their sites. This, together with the challenge of finding demolition experienced labour, needs to be addressed.
At Number 8 Demolition Services, we are finding, building and training a specialist database of demolition operatives. We feel passionate about helping clients overcome problems of sourcing a competent workforce.
Our aim is to train 150 to 200 demolition operatives per year and build the biggest CCDO database that our clients can use. In addition we will organise bespoke training if our clients need trained operatives in a certain area for a specific project. Basically, whatever help our clients need with labour we will aim to work with them and deliver. Partnering with our preferred training providers (C & D Consultancy, NTDG) will enable us to act swiftly and efficiently.”
