Recommending Spillard Safety Systems

This week we've added a new permanent image link on the right of the site which you may have already noticed. It's for Spillard Safety Systems, a company which has been focusing on improving vehicle safety since it was established in 1992.

Spillard is one of the largest suppliers of safety equipment in the quarrying and mining sectors, but its vehicle safety systems extend far beyond that. Most recently we've seen the introduction of the Optronics360 vision system, which is a very clever camera system that removes blind sports from vehicles working in construction.

We want to recommend and highlight Spillard's safety services because we believe they make for a safer environment at work.

Network Rail's Lifesaving Rules Series: Working at Height

Network Rail have produced a set of six fantastic and hard-hitting safety films and shared them freely for everyone to watch. They were good enough to win he Grand Prix Award at the EVCOM Screen Awards in March, and we've decided to share them with our readers. Over the next few days we'll be posting them for your viewing pleasure, or displeasure due to the raw nature of the content. Either way, they are all well worth watching, and if you want more, then check out our own set of Toolbox Talks.

Portable Appliance Testing

There is a plethora of regulations that relate to the safety of electrical appliances in all situations. The major ones are listed below:
  • The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  • The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
  • The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
The responsibility for getting these items tested and therefore helping to ensure the safety of their employees, lies with the employer. Whilst there is no stipulations as to how often they need to be tested, there are guidelines which set out recommended time scales for different types of equipment, in different situations.

C&D are now in a position to offer Portable Appliance Testing to the industry at both your offices and out on site using one of our own qualified and CSCS accredited tester.
