Work at Height failings leads to worker being confined to a wheelchair

Principal contractor Wates Construction Ltd and sub-contracter Tego Roofing Ltd have been in court after their worker, Giovanni Mastrodomenico, slipped on a waterproof membrane while preparing a roof for a vent installation.

Mastrodomenico fell through the vent hole in the roof and laneded on a concrete floor. His injuries have left the 56-year-old paralysed from the waist down. The HSE discovered scaffolding under the hole inside the building had been removed and scaffolding planks covering the hole also removed.

Wates Construction has been finded £18,000 for the incident and also has to pay £11,127 in costs. Tego Roofing Ltd. has to pay a £10,000 fine and £9,460 in costs.

If you are needing to undertake work at height why not book a Work at Height Awareness course for all of your workforce. Courses start from £70.00 per person. Book via john.woodward@demolishdismantle.co.uk
