This week has seen the HSE publish the latest workplace fatality statistics for the period from April 2014 to March 2015, and they do not make good reading.
Yes, the long term trend is still continuing to halve the rate of fatalities over the last 20 years, but this year fatalities increased again to 142 (a rate of 0.46 fatalities per 100,000 workers).
Agricultural deaths remained the same at 33, construction deaths (and demolition deaths are in this number) decreased from 44 to 35 with waste recycling sector deaths at 5.
Deaths from Mesothelioma in 2013 (the latest statistics) were 2,538.
