IOSH Midland Branch Meeting Tomorrow

The next IOSH Midland Branch Meeting will be held on Thursday, 6th April. The topic will be Nanotechnology and Risk Management.

The presentation will be given by Himmat Rai BSc (Hons) LL.M DMS FCIEH CEnvH CMIOSH. Himmat Rai is Managing Director of Sentinel Safety Solutions Ltd, a risk management consultancy specialising in health & safety and food safety, based in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.

He has almost 30 years’ experience in his field, including nine years enforcing health & safety/food safety. Since joining the private sector in 1997, Himmat has worked with a diverse range of organisations from SME’s through to multi-nationals, as well as local authorities and the NHS. He has worked throughout the UK, mainland Europe, USA, and the Far East.

Himmat is a published author and contributor to UK and International publications. His extensive experience is regularly called upon by instructing solicitors and insurers as an Expert Witness with respect to both criminal and civil matters.

This is going to be a very interesting presentation, and will be of interest to all health and Safety Practitioners especially those in the field of science.

There will be a buffet lunch and refreshments available from 1.30pm with the meeting commencing at 2pm. The address is as follows:

APS Midlands CPD event 13th February

The Association for Project Safety (APS) has sent out a reminder about the Midlands CPD event being held next Thursday, 13th February. The topic is "Another kind of confidence" and will be presented by Andrew Hornby.

Here's a description of his talk:

"The current CDM Regulations place considerable emphasis on the competence of duty holders, but the focus is typically on technical competence. So what about 'emotional competence'? What is its value and to what extent is this recognised by CDM Coordinators, clients and others? Andrew Hornby presents the findings of some recent research into this subject and provides an opportunity for us all to reflect on our own practice. Andrew has spent 15 years in design and construction risk management and is currently Business Assurance Service Leader at EC Harris."

The event starts at 6pm and runs until 8pm. The venue (including free parking) is the Birmingham Medical Institute at 36 Harbourne Road, Birmingham. B15 3AF. The cost is £15 per person regardless of whether you are a member or not.
