In 2012/13, 39 construction workers were killed and 12 of those were self-employed. The nature of the work means there is a high incidence rate, but that doesn't mean it is inevitable any of the two million people working in construction will get injured.
With that in mind, the HSE is running a free seminar designed to make sure workers don’t become an injury statistic. It will be a half day event organised in conjunction with the Staffordshire and Shropshire Working Well Together group. It is taking place at Keele University, Staffordshire, from 8.30am to 12.30pm on Wednesday, 14th May.
A number of experts and HSE representatives will be giving talks, including Roger Willey, Managing Director of ACS Physical Risk Control Ltd.
If you would like to attend please contact Anne Twigg or Janet Gibson at the HSE on 01782 602300.

Directors! When was the last time you did training? Are you aware of your responsibilities?
When the company is busy it never seems the right time for directors to attend training courses as there is always something more pressing to deal with. But what would happen if, God forbid, your company had a fatality or a serious incident and the company ends up in court?
Is "I was too busy running the company" a good statement to make in the High Court? Could you show that you are engaging in CPD and increasing your knowledge?
If the answers to these questions is No, then maybe it is time for you to book onto a Directors Responsibilities Course and learn what you, as the controlling minds of the business, should be doing to discharge your duties.
Courses start from £100.00 per person and are delivered at your premises if you prefer. For further details please contact margaret@demolishdismantle.co.uk
